Camp Counselor Profile: Gary!

Glaswegian Gary headed out to New York after Wild Packs was recommended to him by some friends. After spending the summer in the States Gary is definitely camp sick!

Why did you choose Wild Packs?

I picked Wild Packs because several people, over the years, on my course have gone to America using the company. I managed to speak to some of them prior to choosing Wild Packs and they made it clear that this was the best company to help me out.

What did you do at camp?

I was a general counselor. Meaning I was with the kids when they woke up and also when they went to sleep. I also became my group football coach as I have experience in coaching. In orientation, prior to camp starting, I also gained a certificate in manning the climbing wall and would take groups of eager young climbers a few times every week.

Highlight of the summer?

Colour war towards the end of camp. It’s been a camp tradition for over 100 years. You are either a Green or a Gray and then 4 days of competition takes place to see who can ring the bell and win! It was a well run, emotional and fair carnival of fun for the kids and the counselors.

Favourite camp meal?

WINGSSSSSS

Favourite evening activity at camp?

Bunk hide and seek was always a favourite. Getting to spend some time with your bunk running around trying to find other bunks.

Favourite day off activity?

Tubing down a local river for a few hours with friends from all over the world.

Favourite post camp travel destination?

Yesomite National Park– the views and the waterfalls are out of this world.

What did you learn about yourself this summer?

That taking chances and doing things out of your comfort zone can lead to some of the best experiences in your life.
